Yuri Zhislin

Winner of the 1993 BBC Radio Two Young Musician of the Year, Yuri studied with Ms Svetlova and later with his father, Grigori Zhislin and Dr Felix Andrievsky. He won the Dvarionas International Competition in Lithuania in 1989 and became a prize-winner of the Carmel Competition in California, Premio Trio di Trieste in Italy, Pablo Sarasate in Spain and Douai Violin Competition in France.

He performed at the Wigmore Hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Purcell Room, the Concertgebouw and gave recitals and performed with various orchestras in his native Russia and in the UK, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Spain, France, Germany, Yugoslavia, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, Poland, the USA, Australia and New Zealand. Yuri has made a number of recordings and appeared in live broadcasts on the Russian Radio and Television, BBC Radio Two, Radio Three and various classical networks throughout Europe and the USA. Recent seasons saw him perform with the BBC Concert Orchestra, the London Mozart Players, the Belgrade Philharmonic, the Lublin Philharmonic, the Louisiana Strings, the Asturias Symphony Orchestra and the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra and at festivals throughout the UK, Bulgaria, Sweden, Cyprus and France.

As a violist, Yuri regularly appears in a String Trio with the eminent Russian violinist Dmitry Sitkovetsky and outstanding young Armenian cellist Alexander Chaushian.  Yuri has made his viola concerto debut in October 2005, performing Hindemith's "Der Schwanendreher" Viola Concerto in Zaragoza, Spain. He is an Artistic Director of the Evaristo Valle International Music Festival in Spain and Professor of violin at the Royal College of Music in London.
