Frida Fredrikke Waaler Wærvågen

Frida Fredrikke Waaler Wærvågen (18) lives in Horten, Norway, and started playing cello at the age of 5. Since 1998 she has been studying at the Barratt Due Music Institute in Oslo where she is now attending the Conservatory Class for talented young musicians. Her cello teachers are Aage Kvalbein and Dag Øystein Berger.

Frida Fredrikke Waaler Wærvågen (18) lives in Horten, Norway, and started playing cello at the age of 5. Since 1998 she has been studying at the Barratt Due Music Institute in Oslo where she is now attending the Conservatory Class for talented young musicians. Her cello teachers are Aage Kvalbein and Dag Øystein Berger.

Frida Fredrikke has received 1st prizes and Honour Awards in the National and International Competitions she has participated in, such as the Antonio Janigro Cello Competition in Porec, Croatia, 2004, Tallin 2002, and the European Music Prize for Youth 2003 in Linz, Austria (with Trio Brio).
She has twice received the Honour Award in the Sparre Olsen Competition (individual and with Trio Brio), and in the National Youth Music Competition. In 2004 she was awarded Musician of the Year receiving 1st Prizes in 3 classes, having top score in 2 of them (individual and ensemble).

Last year Frida Fredrikke was awarded the Kavli prize and the Kavli Audience prize as a soloist with the Philharmonic in Bergen. She also received the “Arve Tellefsen’s Music Award 2005”. She had concerts during the Chamber Music Festival in Oslo, Stavern and Hardanger and is invited back this year. Frida has been given concerts at the Music Festival in Bergen and at Troldhaugen (Grieg’s home).

During the last years Frida Fredrikke has been a soloist with professional orchestras such as the Philharmonic Orchestras in Oslo, Bergen, Kaunas, Kiev and Pordenone, The Norwegian Broadcasting Orchestra, The Royal Norwegian Navy Band, Zürich and Tallin Chamber Orchestras, and other Norwegian Orchestras. She also made a solid impression during her Eüro Debut concert in Marl, Germany in March 2003, and she was an active participant during the Kronberg Festival in September 2005.

Recently she was one of 5 finalists during the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation National EBU-competition “Virtuos”.

In April Frida Fredrikke was a soloist with the Rundfunkorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks / Münchner Rundfunksorchester, and was invited back as one of the soloists for their CD production in. She is also invited to give concerts in Croatia. In September she is performing in London on a tour with Barratt Due Music Institute (Wigmore Hall and St. Johns Smith Square). She will participate during Cello Masterclasses, Kronberg Academy, and has been selected for the Norwegian TV program ”The Big Chance” for talented youths.

In February 2007 Frida will perform a newly written cello concert with the Oslo Symphony Orchestra composed by Kjell Mørk Karlsen.
