Miriam Helms Ålien, Violin, Norway

Miriam Helms Ålien

Miriam was born in 1991. Miriam started playing the violin at the local music school when she was 6 years old. Since 2004 she has been part of the Young Talents programme of the Barratt Due Institute in Oslo, her main teacher being Alf Richard Kraggerud. She is also one of the Concert Masters of the Barratt Due Junior Orchestra.

Miriam is the First Prize winner in the biannual National Youth Violin Championship of Norway both in 2004 and 2006.

She has also won prizes in other competitions, in Norway and abroad, including the International Kocian Contest in the Czech Republic. Over the last few years she has participated in different international festivals and masterclass courses, including the Valdres Summer Symphony in Norway and Margess International in Switzerland.

On New Year’s Day 2007 she performed as a soloist on NRK1 National Norwegian television.
Miriam plays a 1780 Gagliano violin made available by the Norwegian Storebrand insurance company.
